Nigeria slams CAF player of the year vote

Top Nigerian officials on Friday criticised the procedure used to determine the CAF African Player of the Year after John Obi Mikellost out to Ivorian star Yaya Toure.

The national team coaches of the 54 member countries vote for 10 nominated players on a scale of one to 10 points, with the highest score signifying their top pick.

Manchester City midfielder Toure collected 373 points and was voted by 28 national team coaches as their top pick for the past year, making it a hat-trick of wins after success in 2011 and 2012.

Apparently suicide victim Paul Mutora had been confirmed dead for between 15 to 20 hours before attendants realized he was still alive.

Hospital staff have been left in shock after a dead Kenyan man woke up in the mortuary.

Suicide victim Paul Mutora, 24, had been confirmed dead for between 15 to 20 hours before Naivasha District Hospital workers made the chilling discovery.

KTN Kenya said that several mortuary attendants 'took to their heels' when Mr Mutora woke up inside one of the mortuary chambers where he was due to be embalmed and started calling for help.

Mr Mutora, from Limuru, had been rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead after drinking insecticide following an argument with his father.           

Hospital superintendent Dr Joseph Mburu said that the anti-poison drugs given to Mr Mutora upon arriving in the hospital may have been responsible for giving the false impression of death.

Woman Pulls Gun From Vagina After Dispute Over Space Aliens (#weird)

The ex-wife of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy was arrested Saturday after allegedly whipping a gun out of her vagina and threatening her boyfriend.

Jennifer McCarthy, 48, got into an argument with her 53-year-old lover about space aliens, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun. McCarthy left her Santa Fe residence, then came back and changed into lingerie. The outfit was accessorized by a silver handgun placed in her vagina, with which she began to have "inner course," [sic] according to the affidavit.

Tonight’s GLO CAF Awards in Lagos promises to be a bumper entertainment show as top African music stars like D’ banj, Lagbaja and P-Square, are to thrill fans and guests who will grace the high-profile event at the Expo Centre of the Eko Hotels on the Island.

Organisers said yesterday that these celebrated acts will set the tone for the mother of all shows that essentially celebrates African football stars who shone in the football sphere in the year just gone by.

Prominent on the list is the masked artiste from Nigeria, Lagbaja, who is expected to keep the night alive with his Afro-Calypso genre of music, a product of various influences ranging from traditional yoruba music to Jazz. The masked one is expected to enliven the hall with his scintillating dance steps and rhythmic saxophone.

Andrew Davidson tried to kiss a number of female passengers and when they all refused, he turned to the trolley nearby

A man tried to have sex with a train's onboard drinks trolley when none of his fellow passengers would kiss him, a court heard.

Andrew Davidson shouted "I want to kiss you" as he humped the trolley, which contained food, drinks and cash, Perth Sheriff Court was told today.

According to STV News, Davidson, 25, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on the Aberdeen to Glasgow ScotRail service.

Who would be the King of African football

The annual CAF Awards enters its 22nd edition this year and the Awards Gala will take place Lagos, Nigeria.

On Thursday, January 9, 2013; the King of African football will be unveiled at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos; amongst the trio of Yaya Toure, past winner of the last two editions; his Ivorian counterpart Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel (Nigeria).

From 1992 to 2012, from Ghana’s Abedi Pele to Ivorian Toure, 14 players have laid claim to the most prestigious individual honour in African football. Eto’o has been crowned an unprecedented four times – 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010, whilst Senegalese forward, El Hadji Diouf won the award twice in succession; 2001 and 2002 just as Toure in 2011 and 2012.

However, the first player to have been named CAF African footballer of the Year on two occasions remain ex-Nigeria captain Nwankwo Kanu, in 1996 and 1999 before Drogba duplicated the feat in 2006 and 2009.

Winners of the prestigious honour have come from either the midfield or attack; and that tradition will be respected yet again this year as the contenders are within that scope.

In addition, the 14 players to have been decorated since 1992 had and continue to remain amongst the foremost African ambassadors of the world’s most popular sport.

When the roll call for the laureates is launched, there is one noticeable observation; Nigeria is the country which has the biggest number of laureates with five awards in total, two for Kanu, one each for Emmanuel Amunike, Rashidi Yekini and Victor Ikpeba.

Patrick Mboma won it once coupled with Eto’o’s four-time feat also gives Cameroon five titles, Cote d’Ivoire has four in Drogba (twice) and Toure (twice) whilst Diouf is responsible for the only two titles in the name of Senegal.

One-time winners include Ghana – Abedi Pele, Liberia – George Weah (the only African player to have been crowned FIFA World Footballer of the Year), Morocco – Mustapha Hadji, Mali – Frederic Kanoute and Togo – Emmanuel Adebayor.

Another common feature is that all winners plied their trade in Europe at the time of their coronation.

George Lippert was born in Germany in 1844. In addition to being born with three legs, he was also born with two functioning hearts, although that condition was unknown until his autopsy in 1906. His third leg was fully formed and even possessed an extra toe, giving Lippert a total of sixteen. The leg was not functional. Hailing from the Hunan province, all signs pointed to a normal, healthy baby for young Yi Xilian, but once Kangkang was born, the truth was revealed. The poor child looks like he's literally wearing a mask, due in part to a massive cleft that extends almost all the way up to his ears. Unable to see her son upon birth, the unfortunate mother, who is employed at a company that manufactures electronics in the Guangdong Province, pleaded and pleaded with her husband to see the newborn. After finally being handed the child, she broke down into tears.

Florida man Accused Of Having Séx With Family Dog

A Florida man is in police custody after allegedly having s*x with a dog that lived in his home.

Joshua Werbicki, 22, was arrested last Friday at a Papa John’s restaurant where he worked, according to a police report obtained by Click Orlando.

The dog, a German Shepard, was described as a “family pet” and belonged to Werbicki’s roommate, Florida Today reported. Brevard County Animal Services Sgt. Michael Healy told the paper that the dog remains in the custody of the roommate.

Family members of the dog told police they had noticed signs of abuse from their German Shepard. The dog often limped, and was fearful of being approached.

Bomb maker arrested by the Nigerian Military Joint task force.

The Joint Task Force, JTF, has said it has apprehended a Boko Haram chieftain, who doubles as the group’s bomb maker in Kazaure, Jigawa state.

Spokesman of 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, headquartered in Kano, said six people were rescued during a dawn raid that led to the arrest of the yet to be identified terrorist.

Those rescued were three women and three toddlers, suspected to be family members of the man who intelligence gathering revealed has been in the business of aiding and abating terrorist activities in the North.

“One terrorist was apprehended after a gun battle; while three women and three toddlers were extricated unhurt. Five AK 47 rifles, Five magazines, and 333 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and various improvised explosive devices were recovered from the residence on further search. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is an Improvised Explosive Devices manufacturer and his residence a staging ground for terrorist activities in Kano.

“You may recollect that the JTF had earlier alerted members of the general public of fleeing terrorists from major theatres of operation in the North east axis of the country to ‘cooler ‘ areas due to pressure being mounted on them by the ongoing military operations in these areas.

Human Body Parts Fall From Sky In Saudi Arabia

Human body parts fell from the sky in the Saudi city of Jeddah Sunday, with police saying they could be the remains of someone trapped in an aircraft’s undercarriage bay.

“Police received a telephone call at 2:30 am from a witness reporting the fall of human remains at an intersection in Mushrefa neighbourhood” in the Red Sea city, spokesman Nawaf bin Naser al-Bouq said in a statement.

Initial indications were that the remains “fell from a plane’s landing gear,” said Bouq, adding that investigations were ongoing.

Jeddah airport

The report came after a Saudi Arabian Airlines jet made an emergency landing in the city of Medina in the west of the kingdom, injuring 29 people on Sunday.

That aircraft had been travelling from Iran’s second city of Mashhad with 315 people on board.

Calf born with two heads (PHOTO)

The recent birth of a two-headed calf has brought an influx of visitors to the rural village of Sefrou in Morocco. Farmer owners named the calf Sana Saida ("Happy New Year" in Arabic) in honor of the holiday.

Though relatively rare, several two-headed calfs have been born around the world. In October, another polycephalic calf was born in Vermont. The animal, which would have been a twin if it had split as an egg, died died from natural causes two days later.

Despite good health conditions, two-headed animals usually do not survive long after birth because of the abnormality. While the two-headed calf in Morocco already surpassed the lifespan of the calf in Vermont, local veterinarians are unsure how long Sana Saida will survive.

Recreational marijuana is now legal to buy in Colorado, and it's not cheap. But pot smokers who waited in five-hour long lines weren't necessarily looking for a deal on Green Wednesday.

"Our most expensive strains sold the quickest," said Toni Fox, proprietor of Denver's 3D Cannabis Center, to The Huffington Post. "We're closing Monday and Tuesday next week to reassess after the large volume of sales we are seeing."

The Huffington Post spoke with owners at many of the roughly 30 dispensaries that sold legal weed on New Year's Day, and they all said the same thing: an eighth of an ounce of marijuana, which would have normally sold for as low as $25, was fetching anywhere between $35 to $70, after taxes.
